The Prudential Spirit of Community Service Awards
Young people, middle level and high school grades,are honored for volunteer service in thier communities by the The Prudential Spirit of Service Awards. the awards were established in 1995 by Prudential Financial and the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP). these awards and the largest youth recognition program inthe U. S. based solely on volunteering. 50,000 young volunteers have been honored inthe past nine years at the local, state and national level.
Each fall 40,000 public and private middle-level and high schools and organizations;Girl Scout councils, county 4-H organizations, Campfire USA councils, American Red Cross Chapters, YMCAs, and member Volunteer Centers of the Points of Light Foundation and Volunteer Center National Network distribute applications. Local Honorees are selected at participating schools and organizations in November, and from these winners, two State Honorees are chosen in each state, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. Meet the 2004 State Honorees. Finally, 10 National Honorees are picked by a panel of prominent judges, and announced at a special ceremony in Washington, D.C., in May
