Teach Your Child Yoga

Storytime Yoga Makes Health and Literacy Fun for Children and Families

The unique children's yoga and literacy program, Storytime Yoga, announces the 114-page book available at www.Storytimeyoga.com. It features eight multicultural wisdom stories scripted with yoga poses for children's peace and character education while learning fitness and literacy.

Storytime Yoga is an innovative yoga program that blends yoga and oral storytelling to make health and literacy fun for children, families and schools.

Your readers will want to know about the Storytime Yoga method and the book, "Storytime Yoga: Teaching Yoga to Children Through Story" (Boulder, Colo., The Mythic Yoga Studio, 2006), which has 114 pages filled with eight multicultural wisdom stories scripted with yoga poses.

Drawing upon the educational method of multiple intelligences, children learn kinesthetically story, story structure, and how to create and tell their own stories, all the while learning balance, coordination, self-esteem and healthy eating.

Additionally, children learn peace and character education through the stories selected from the world’s folklore.

The book ties in with national curriculum standards and is filled with songs, games, guided meditations and other activities to make yoga and literacy fun. It also features a chapter on creating a family yoga and storytelling hour to increase health, literacy and communication in the home.

The book is sold for $29.95 through the website of Storytime Yoga creator, Sydney Solis, at www.StorytimeYoga.com. The book has already sold hundreds nationally and in Japan, Australia, Mexico and Canada.

Solis is a professional storyteller and yoga teacher who has for the past six years presented at such conferences as the Healing Through Story Conference in Minneapolis, The League for the Advancement of New England Storytellers, and at the Center for Mythological Studies in Mexico.

She gives teacher and parent workshops and will be in Grand Junction, Colorado, this fall and in Philadelphia this spring.

Additionally, Storytime Yoga produces a free quarterly newsletter and online resource with stories, tips for teaching yoga and much more.

“Oral storytelling was an integral part of traditional culture for millenniums. Bringing back this ancient art form is crucial to help children build their imaginations, build character, connect with others, deal with difficult issues and learn critical thinking skills,” Solis said.

“Storytelling uses images and symbols, and for children to master relationships with symbols helps them to learn better, as writing and math are all symbolic languages.”

Storytime Yoga also collaborates with non-profits, such as the Wellness Initiative in Boulder, Colo, providing heath and yoga to children; and the Conflict Center in Denver, providing alternatives to family violence.
