With gas prices soaring, many families are opting out of faraway destination vacations. But that doesn't mean with a little investigation you can't have a great time in your own town.

Before your big trip to the zoo, do some research at the library. Have each of the kids pick out a favorite animal to read about, and then make a list of interesting facts about the animal. Family members can share information they have learned. Since this isn't haomework, parents can participate as much as they like! The kids will fell like they already know their animal, and the family visit to the zoo will be even more exiting.
