Most little girls at some stage or another fall in love the notion of becoming a princess. Being a princess is not always what it seems! Here are some fun books that will keep you and your little princess entertained.
CINDER EDNA
by Ellen Jackson and Kevin O'Malley is an absolute charmer! Cinder Edna is Cinderella's neighbor. Edna wears loafers, not glass slippers. Edna arrives at the ball by bus, not by a coach. While Cinderella falls for the handsome prince, Enda fancies his brother Rupert. You'll never guess who ends up happily ever after! This fractured fairytale offers a humorous twist that is just silly enough to delight young readers.
I REALLY AM A PRINCESS
by Carol Diggory Shields and Paul Meisel is the hilarious tale of a girl convinced she is royalty erroneously stuck in an ordinary home. Her dramatic complaint list about the unfairness of her lot is beyond cheeky. Right from the start kids will get a kick out of this tale of woe: "I am really a princess. And when my true parents, the king and queen, find out how I've been treated around here, they are going to be very upset." Simply brilliant!
PRINCESS JUSTINA ALBERTINA
by Ellen Dee Davidson and Michael Chesworth is deemed "A Cautionary Tale." Princess Justina Albertina is no ordinary Princess. In fact, she is anything but charming and glamorous. She is a demanding and fussy and gives her Nanny a headache. The Princess insists on finding the perfect pet, and rejects all of her Nanny's efforts. The frustrated Nanny brings her one last pet - a gryphon. Finally, Princess Albertina is happy - but she gets her just desserts when "The Gryphon opened his eagle beak and swallowed Princess Justina Albertina in on gulp." This book might not be for very young or highly sensitive readers. The outcome is unexpected and somewhat shocking, albeit hilarious, and thus the reason for calling this a cautionary tale.
