Stores see an increase in big screen TV sales, snack food aisle’s are emptied at the grocery store and recliners are repositioned – all signs that football season is about to begin.

For many, August is the beginning of 5 months of nail biting excitement. Watching the game is not enough, as soon as training camp begins fantasy football leagues are started, drafts are held and the choices are made on how each person, in their eyes, will win the championship this year. The excitement seems to be spreading to include those who are not usually big fans, but the chance to pick a winning team, whether for the week or over all is enough to bring closet fans into the game.

With training camp comes the yearly questions, will someone not return? Who will hold out for more money? Who will retire and who will stay? The nightly sports report is like a soap opera with players and coaches moving to different teams, others hold out for more money and still others simply hoping for their time in the spotlight.

This year’s NFL season will kick off with a Thursday night game, September 9, with the New Orleans Saints facing the Minnesota Vikings, in a rematch of the NFC championship game. The end of the season will come to an end on February 6, 2011 with the playing of the Super Bowl at cowboy’s stadium in Arlington, Texas.

One more highlight of this year’s NFL season is a new stadium for the New York Giants and New York Jets. During the opening weekend of the NFL season, both the Giants and the Jets will play at home to open the new Meadowlands Stadium. The Giants are scheduled to play Sunday afternoon against the Carolina Panthers, with the Jets playing start ESPN’s Monday night football Monday night against the Baltimore Ravens.

With the start of any sports season there are expectations, questions and disappointments it seems to be what keep fans around, as the drama continues both on and off the field. The only way to discover the answers to this year’s questions is to grab a snack, settle into that new recliner and watch the show.

Here’s to the 2010 NFL season.
