Dr. Mitchell Yass - Stop the Pain, I Want My Life Back
Mitchell Yass, DPT is the “Miracle Man” among Long Island physical therapists and now Boca Raton, Florida. With more than 18 years in practice, he has helped thousands of patients avoid surgery, eliminate chronic pain andlose weight. Patients travel from multiple states and even from abroad to seek out his unique brand of physical therapy, which makes use of targeted strength training and an intricate knowledge of how to
determine the true cause of pain.
He has trained professional athletes, including New York Islanders, and worked with more than 13,000 pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. He has also treated patients with cerebral palsy to improve their motor skills and their quality of life. The first step in Yass’s program is the comprehensive evaluation of an ailment. Yass has found that most symptoms are the result of muscle weakness or imbalance, rather than structural ones like herniated discs and arthritis generally found on diagnostic tests such as x-rays and MRIs. Yass, who has been a weight lifter for 23 years, uses targeted strength training techniques to resolve the problem.
“It’s like a miracle,” says Marina D’Alessandro, a retired registered nurse from Levittown, New York. “My arms move. My knees move. I can walk without any problems. It’s basically what he said. ‘Strengthen the muscles around the injury.’ He changed my life. I wasn’t able to take care of my grandkids. I felt depressed and now I can carry the laundry and carry all the things I wasn’t able to. I was so glad that I found him.”
Education is an important component of his practice. He has a bachelor degree in physical therapy from Downstate Medical Center-1993 and completed his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the New York Institute of Technology in 2010. Yass is the author of Overpower Pain: The Strength Training Program That Stops Pain Without Drugs Or Surgery which was published in 2008 by Sentient Publishing. He recently began his own radio show called Stop The Pain; I Want My Life Back. The show can be heard on WBZT Talk Radio 1230 AM on Tuesdays at 10:30 am.
He has owned and operated PT2 Physical Therapy & Personal Training in Farmingdale, NY since 1997 and has recently expanded his practice to Boca Raton, Florida. Yass is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association.
