Teenagers need their own space. They need privacy to be able to talk on the phone, to chill when they want to relax and to listen to music that most of us adults cann't even begin to understand. It's tough to carve out that private area and more so when a room has to be shared with a sibling.
You can use an ordinary room divider to break a larger room into two smaller ones to give each kid an area to call his own, but ordinary is so blah, especially to a teenager.
Give him a room divider unlike any other. You can create a surfboard room divider in just a day and with very little effort. If you make one out of thin wood, then you'll need three equal panels, sturdy hinges and a surfboard pattern to trace onto the wood. Trace the pattern on to the wood, cut it out, paint on whatever design your teen wants (if he's not sure, look through some beach magazines or local surf shops to get design ideas) and add hinges. The panels should be able to hold a balance without any support on the bottom.
That's one way to create a surfboard room divider. The second way is to use real surfboards. You can sometimes find some used ones on sale but keep in mind this way is the most expensive of the two. You screw in heavy duty hinges-one set for the top and bottom of each board-and you're done. Then you'll have a one of a kind room divider any teenager will love.
