Noteworthy Decor

E-mail Print PDF

Messages come from every area of our lives.

Television. Radio. Cell phones. Internet. We have to keep up with doctor’s appointments, dental exams, school meetings, summer meetings, social gatherings with family and friends and the list goes on. We also have those favorite momentos from events we attend.

Putting them up on a regular corkboard seems so ordinary and the frames surrounding those plain Jane corkboards are not appealing or attractive. There’s a way to create a cork board that can make it anything from soothing to dazzling.

You can either purchase corkboard material without it having that plastic or wooden frame or you can get one on sale at the store that has a frame. Now would be a good time to buy one with all the back to school sales going on. Regardless of how you get one, you want to take the frame off it and instead set the corkboard in a decorative picture frame.

You can get picture frames in all styles, sizes and designs so you won’t be limited by choice there and put the cork board in the frame without the glass. You can paint any picture frame, you can add miniature flip-flops for a casual beach theme, miniature school related items for a college dorm room or even small cooking utensils to use the corkboard for a kitchen message/keepsake center.

As a gift for tweens’ room, you can cut to size a poster of their favorite music group or actor to cover the back of the corkboard. Add tickets from concerts, shows or other related materials.

Happy Decorating!

About the Author

From the time she was a child, Sonya spun stories to entertain herself and her siblings. Once she graduated high school, she put her writing aside and attended college where she studied Secondary Education, majoring in English. The writing bug never quite left her and once she had children, Sonya would write stories for their enjoyment.

A few years ago, her oldest daughter persuaded her to send a children's short story to an editor and to Sonya's astonishment and delight, the story sold. In April of 2003, she won Harlequin's Writing Round Robin contest. Since then, her work has appeared on various online websites as well as in her local newspaper.

Sonya currently resides in the beautiful state of South Carolina with her husband and four children and works as a freelance writer.
