Uncommon Thanksgiving Decoration Ideas

E-mail Print PDF

uncommom thanksgiving decorationEveryone uses turkeys, cornucopias, harvest themes, and similar décor to indicate the Thanksgiving season.

These are very common ideas, though, and not everyone likes to decorate with the more common themes. This article will focus on offering homeowners some uncommon thanksgiving decorating ideas, to create a more unique season-themed room or outdoor area. You will be able to create the perfect Thanksgiving décor for your indoor or outdoor party, gathering, or just-because decoration.

Fall Themes

This may seem like a common idea, but most people forget about simple fall themes when they decorate for Thanksgiving. There is absolutely nothing wrong with using beautiful gold, red, orange, and yellow leaves to decorate for Thanksgiving, and this is a great way to introduce color into a neutral color palette. Most stores offer décor for this type of theme, and you can find unique shapes and colors for many types of wall art and accessories.

Fall themes are about more than the changing leaves, although these tend to be the primary focus. If you want to use common Thanksgiving colors, consider choosing fall colors in complementing colors as accents or accessories. Choose beautiful and attractive accents, such as throw pillows, table runners, candles and candle holders that suit your décor and your budget.

Vegetable Accents

Harvest themes, such as pumpkins and cornucopias, are the most traditional Thanksgiving decorations, but these items are better combined with bowls, platters and cake stands to create a trendy, modern Thanksgiving look. You can also include other vegetables, flowers, gourds, squash, kumquats, and similar items, combining them for a true harvest theme. Vegetable accents work well with any Thanksgiving décor, and there are many different items to choose from at this time of year.

For example, you can choose a variety of apples, corn, pumpkins, wheat, pears, pomegranates, grapes, rosemary, and other fruits and vegetables. Pair these with dahlias and many other fall bloomers to create unique centerpieces and for any room of your home. Accessories t such as these often cost far less than more traditional décor, and you can easily make many decorations yourself for very little money.

Flowers and Smells

Smell is an important first impression and there are many Thanksgiving decorating ideas that offer great scents. There are several bulbs and bloomers that are available during the fall months that smell great, from flowers to herbs and much more. In addition, you can find a wide variety of candles to create the perfect scent for your out-of-the-ordinary Thanksgiving décor. Examples of ideas include rosemary, cinnamon, pine needles, apples, roses, and more, depending on your decoration choices.

Common With Uncommon Accents

You also have the option to take something common for Thanksgiving, such as pumpkin or gourds, and turn it into something unique. For instance, instead of choosing the traditional orange pumpkins, choose a great white pumpkin and add silver glitter to create something spectacular that suits many different color palettes. Pair this with a burgundy tablecloth, spray-painted gourds (use silver or gold for elegance), and greenery for a spectacular focal point in the dining room, living room, kitchen or outdoors.
