Home Life and Style Interior Decorating Quick Fall Decorations

Quick Fall Decorations

E-mail Print PDF

By Sonya Weiss - Interior Design - As the holidays approach, whenever you visit a retail store, you’ll find that the seasonal decorations come out earlier every year.

For some people, that can be quite an annoyance but for those who like to get a jump on the decorations so they can relax and spend time with family, it’s quite handy.

The best decorations for the fall festivities are usually out by the second or third week of October so you can go ahead and take advantage of the bargains now. To add a splash of color inside your home, mums are the perfect way to go. They’re quick and easy to group together. You can arrange them in front of the fireplace, sit smaller versions on side tables and even use the mini versions as table décor.

Buy baskets at flea markets, thrift stores or through yard sales. Spray them using fall colors of orange, red or golden yellow. Fill the baskets with mums, pumpkins, squash or other vegetables for the perfect country table centerpiece. You can use a hollowed out real pumpkin as a flower vase but if you do so, you're going to want to make sure that the pumpkin is scooped out very well. You’re also going to want to make sure you don’t hollow out the pumpkin too many days in advance.

If you’re having a dinner party, consider buying the mini hay bales at your local craft store and tucking the guest’s name card into the top of the hay bale.

Happy Decorating!

About the Author

From the time she was a child, Sonya spun stories to entertain herself and her siblings. Once she graduated high school, she put her writing aside and attended college where she studied Secondary Education, majoring in English. The writing bug never quite left her and once she had children, Sonya would write stories for their enjoyment.

A few years ago, her oldest daughter persuaded her to send a children's short story to an editor and to Sonya's astonishment and delight, the story sold. In April of 2003, she won Harlequin's Writing Round Robin contest. Since then, her work has appeared on various online websites as well as in her local newspaper.
