I am a soldier seeking help
Hi my name is Shawnda and I was wondering if there was any way this program cold help my uniqe situation. I am a soldier stationed at FORT BLISS. My mother lives in Alaska and she recently called me and explained her financial situation. She lost her job about a month ago because her car kept breaking down and she could not make it to work. Her job was over 30 miles away so she could not walk. Her phone bill was cut off, and she cannot pay any of her bills. I have tried to help her as much as I can but it seems that it is never enough! I am very worried about her and am seeking help.

Here are some ways to help your mom
Refer her to the local consumer credit counseling service (http://www.cccsofak.com/ - Tel: 1-800-478-6501). Encourage to contact her local church or place of worship. Many places of worship offer counseling services and some form of support whether it be food or money to its members/parishoners during hard times. Another place I would refer her to is the local unemployment office (http://labor.state.ak.us/esd_unemployment_insurance/home.htm - 907-465-5552). Finally, in addition to finding resources to help her mother out, the most important thing that you can do is remain in constant contact with her mother for emotional support even if she cannot help her financially.
