Color Your Mood
By Jillian Bietz
From your eye shadow to your clothes to your nail polish, the colors you choose to wear say a lot. But how do you determine what colors are for you? And depending on your skin tone, hair color, and of course, personality, you can find the perfect hue for you.
Fundamentally there are two categories of colors: warm and cold. If you are familiar with the color wheel, cold colors are directly opposite of warm ones. Generally, cold and warm colors do not work well together. Neutral hues like black can be an exception though.
Cold colors consist of blue-based hues such as various blues, purples, greens, and silvers. Warm colors are pink or yellow based and include yellows, oranges, reds, gold and browns. Though traditionally cool colors work best on fairer skin tones/hair colors and warm compliment darker skin tones/hair colors, you can wear virtually any color when you wear it right. Take a look at your closet. Do you notice a pattern? If you do, consider adding some details of an opposite hue. It might change your mood! There's no doubt that there are colors to reflect every emotion.
You do not have to be distinctly a cold-colored person or a warm-colored person when it comes to clothes. Let your personality and your mood persevere. If you feel sad, fight the urge to don all black and opt for an outfit a little warmer. If you are stumped, think of elements in nature. Many conjure certain feelings. For example, the blue ocean is relaxing. So why not wear an aqua sweater? Who knows? You might feel a little serene. Want to get energetic and inspired? Try an orange tee shirt.
Color is a great way to express yourself. Throw on the fuchsia sweater and let the world know what you are feeling!
