Nail-it!
By Jillian Bietz
No matter the occasion or the day, a good manicure is the finishing touch on any outfit.
Shape-wise, short, square-like oval nails are the most practical and the most fashionable, regardless of the color they are painted. And for Fall 2009, there are many colors and sheens to try out.
On celebrities and on the runways, one of the most significant nail trends is the matte finish. While there are polishes specifically made to have a matte appearance, the anti-glossy look can be achieved with any type of polish. To achieve the look, paint basecoat over freshly painted or drying nails. This will help to achieve a less-sparkly, shiny appearance. Cool hues like purples, blues and grays are especially stylish with matte finishes.
For a more colorful option, try a metallic. Gold and silver flecked lacquers are elegant yet fun at the same time. As the weather cools down, short nails painted with dark hues like violet, navy blue and black are always in style. But those who prefer a lighter look
Winter white has become increasingly popular in matte finishes and glossy sheens.
Well groomed hands make you look and feel like a star.
