Decorative Art for Your Walls

Have you ever known someone who had a flair for decorating? It seems everything they touch turns to decorating gold. I know someone who fits that bill. I have a friend who is a decorating guru. Everything she brings into her home adds not only style but also a warm, welcoming feel. I love to visit her and see what new look she's pulled together. She's not afraid to use what she likes and to mix pieces together to create a one of a kind decorating appeal.

One of the pieces of artwork she has in one of the bedrooms is a piece that I've always loved and admired and thought surely that she must have purchased it from an art show. It has all the colors in the room beautifully woven together but when I asked her where she purchased it, she laughed and told me she didn't buy it at all. The painting was free.

One of her grandchildren had painted wide streaks of a few pastel colors in a variety of rectangle shapes. These colors covered a large canvas.

My friend took the canvas to a local framing shop and had the piece fit with a mat and placed in a frame. The result was eye catching and is a gorgeous focal point.

When it comes to decorating ideas, sometimes not only are the best ones free, but they're as easy as handing a few jars of finger-paint to a child and watching what results from their creativity.

Happy Decorating!

About Sonya Weiss

From the time she was a child, Sonya spun stories to entertain herself and her siblings. Once she graduated high school, she put her writing aside and attended college where she studied Secondary Education, majoring in English. The writing bug never quite left her and once she had children, Sonya would write stories for their enjoyment.

A few years ago, her oldest daughter persuaded her to send a children's short story to an editor and to Sonya's astonishment and delight, the story sold. In April of 2003, she won Harlequin's Writing Round Robin contest. Since then, her work has appeared on various online websites such as http://www.pregnancytoday.com as well as in her local newspaper.

Sonya currently resides in the beautiful state of South Carolina with her husband and four children and works as a freelance writer.
