A new year is the perfect time to make those decorating changes you've always wanted to try. Many home improvement stores offer free classes on weekends on how to do everything from laying a hardwood floor to do it yourself stenciling.

Linens make great decorations and can be used to spruce up any room in the home. Even better are the one of a kind tablecloths you can create yourself. Purchase a plain white tablecloth, a couple of oranges or apples. Choose fabric paint in colors that'll match your kitchen.

With a paint brush, cover the inside of the sliced fruit with the fabric paint. If you dip the fruit in the paint, it won't cover the fruit evenly. Going around the bottom edge of the tablecloth, press the fruit to the linen. Repeat until you've gone all the way around the cloth. If you use an orange, you may want to paint the skin a contrasting color.

You can also decorate a tablecloth using large rubber stamps and have a variety of designs. Just paint the stamp with the fabric paint.
