Forget Perfection
by Sonya Weiss
It seemed that everywhere I looked this week, I saw articles about how to strive for perfection in many different areas of life, but especially in the area of decorating. The articles were along the lines of how to find the perfect paint color, where to buy the perfect furnishings, how to choose the perfect flooring.
Great articles, but the only problem with perfection is that it can keep you from making a move at all when it comes to decorating anything for fear you'll make a mistake.
There's nothing wrong with striving to do our best, but perfection creates homes where you're so busy taking care of the house, you forget to relax and live in it.
So toss out the idea of perfection and instead, go with what makes you happy, what makes your family feel comfortable enough to live with.
Whether your tastes are French Provincial, shabby chic or country primitive (which is my favorite), choose a decorating style that you can be at home with.
With today's economy, you don't have to spend a lot to get a lot back in return when it comes to decorating. In fact, many decorating stores have great bargains for the home on their clearance rack and you can find items that'll please any decorator. On a side note, if you find an item you really like, but the color doesn't suit you, you can always paint over it.
Just a couple of months ago, hubby and I stopped in at the local Pier 1 Imports store and found a screen that fits my decor beautifully. The best part? It was on clearance and marked well below what it was worth.
Happy Decorating!
