Decorating for the Seasons
by Sonya Weiss
When it comes to knowing how to decorate for the seasons, nature itself gives out clues. So when you're not sure what colors to use in your home, simply look outside. Nature is a master at decorating.
During the spring, bring pastel colors into your home. Shades of yellow, mint green, pale pinks, lavender and light blue. For inspiration, check out flower gardens.
Even better, if you have any botanical gardens in your area, take a stroll among the flowers there.
The New York Botanical Garden is one I'd highly recommend and it's open year round with the exception of certain holidays.
Right now, during the fall season, look for a botanical garden that offers great ideas for autumn decor. Many botanical gardens have knowledgeable staff who can offer tips and help to make your own gardens just as beautiful.
There is nothing as gorgeous as the way nature puts on a fall show of fiery reds, brilliant golds and copper browns. Capture that show and bring it into your home. Gather fall leaves in a basket to display on your table or fireplace. Be sure they're completely dry first.
The bounty of fruit and vegetables can also help your home look warm and inviting for the fall. Pick up some cinnamon sticks at your local grocery store. Layer the sticks in the bottom of a bowl. Top with small pumpkins, gourds etc. for a wonderfully scented colorful decoration.
You don't have to be an expert in home decorating to know what you like and what colors please your eye.
Happy Decorating!
