Model Trains
Model railways have always been a passion of mine. I worked with the Victorian Railways for many years and so got to see and enjoy real trains and be paid into the bargain. I built my first Model Railway layout in 1973, an N Scale modular layout echoing the beloved Victorian Railways and based on the beautiful Bright Station and yards.
I still have this layout after having moved addresses and states many times. I developed an interest in HO Scale in the early '80's and built a layout based on an oval of track. It grew, and now boasts 3 areas. This allows me to run VR, British and American trains as it has 3 separate scenes. Depending on the way you are looking, you can enjoy any of the areas of interest.
I have interlocked all the points and routes are selected via a single switch, using diode logic. Each point machine has its own Capacitor Discharge unit, making it very easy to achieve. I make these units myself and for a couple of dollars worth of parts it is well worthwhile. Model Railways are a big part of my life these days. I belong to the Hobart Model Railway Group and enjoy participating in exhibitions and display layouts.
I have made many good friends through my interest in Model Railways and hope the hobby is perpetuated. I do like to encourage any young and up-coming modellers. Don't let this wonderful hobby die, introduce a friend to it today.
