A New Dad To Be? Deer in the headlights?
Ok. So you're a dad to be. If you're like most men, this can be a scary situation. We go through so many emotions and sometimes we don't know what to think or how to react. Some men get very enthusiastic but then still go through the emotional roller coaster. Take heart, your not alone. You're experiencing what man before you has experienced for thousands of years. You'd think that by now a job description would have been past down through the ages and to some degree it has through being raised by your parents. The first thing that you should know is that your wife or girlfriend is going to go through hormonal changes. There is nothing that you can do about that except to be there for her and be supportive. She is after all going to go through the most amazing, difficult but wonderful experience of her life. For most women, this is when they realize that they truly become a woman. In some cultures you are considered a virgin until you've had a baby. Mother nature is going to kick in full force and her instincts to nurture and care for this growing baby inside her will be on the forefront of her mind. You may feel somewhat neglected at this time but guys; realize that it's not that she loves you less. You have to understand that this is a new experience for her also and suddenly she is faced with the sheer terror of giving child-birth and there is no going back. Whether she wants to experience it or not is no longer an option. She is going to experience the pain of child-birth. Be kind and gentle with her. Some women experience morning sickness in the early stages of pregnancy. I think that may have something to do with how healthy she was before becoming pregnant. Good diet before becoming pregnant is important for her health and the babies. She may also have food cravings. This is nature's way of providing the nutrients she may be missing from her usual diet. Having a baby completely changes your life. You will no longer have the same life you had before. You not only the responsibility of your life and your spouse but you now have the responsibility of a small helpless child that is your own. This child is an extension of you and will carry on the future family. The rewards of having children is great. Not only will they learn from you but you may be pleasantly surprised at how they teach you as well. In summary, during the pregnancy, if you are supportive of you spouse/girlfriend, you will find that her health and that of the baby will be much greater and the caring you show for her will be returned to you. It is a time to be enjoyed and all the planning for the coming birth can be exciting and a rewarding experience. Good luck! About the author Wilhelmina Jones

Helping Your Child Cope With A Long-Term Illness
All children will likely have many different health problems during infancy and childhood: the flu, chicken pox, broken bones, stitches, ear infections, to name a few. For most children, these problems are mild ? they come and go without incident and with little disruption in a child's daily life or routine. A chronic long-term medical problem is different and often doesn't come alone, as children with serious medical illnesses are at risk of developing associated emotional problems. Learning to live with a chronic medical condition can be very challenging for a child, for parents, and for siblings and friends, and can lead to feelings of anger, fear and depression.
Whos Teaching Your Child About Money?
Managing money is one of the most critical skills we must master to function effectively as adults. However, public school curricula rarely address this issue directly. Instead, teachers cover it as a side topic or as examples in math.

Why Me?
Why Me?
Is it ADHD or Bi-Polar Disorder?
Bi-Polar Disorder, or Manic Depression, is characterized by mood swings, sometimes extreme, ranging from depressed to normal moods, or from depressed to manic episodes. Manic behaviors are often very similar to "hyperactive" behaviors, including motor restlessness, irritability, temper outbursts, sleeping less, or having higher levels of energy. It is rare. But it does happen.
Life Lessons Learned in My Underwear
For several years now, I've told the following story as a keynote presentation when I do speaking engagements:
The ADD Child: Challenging Parents, Teachers and Friends
The ADD child exhibits a series of behaviors that are common in most children. Most children misbehave, act silly and day dream. So what, then, is the difference? The child with Attention Deficit Disorder exhibits these behaviors in a constant and extreme manner, often interfering with their academic, social and family interactions.

Meningitis is an inflammation of the membranes around the brain and spinal cord. It is caused by either a virus or bacteria.
How Well Do You Know Your Child?
Do you think you really know your child? I don't mean know what he/she likes and doesn't like, but to know him/her well enough to understand his/her challenges, to appreciate his/her strengths and weaknesses and to help him/her develop his talents. Knowing your children can help increase their chance for success in the future and improve your relationship.
Math Facts - Try Some Fun Ways to Learn Them
Memorizing math facts is a necessary part of elementary school. Flash cards and repetitive chanting have their place, but, for my children, were pure drudgery. Frustrated by their lack of interest in practicing their math facts, I have searched for ways to make memorizing math facts more fun.
Picky Eater Syndrome
'Picky Eater' is a label coined to describe the phenomenon that someone has discerning taste preferences different from their parents or others. These discerning taste preferences are dictated by their blood and body type. It is important for parents to accept and model the 'real' purpose of food. Quite simply, food serves two purposes-growth/repair of worn tissue and fuel for the body to run on. The number of calories needed per day is based on body structure, height and level of activity.

School Days - Top 10 Tips for Establishing a Good Routine
Teachers know that children thrive in an environment with
routines, boundaries and rules. Unfortunately, parents often
forget it! And yet by establishing good routines and
encouraging children to help you maintain them, you have an
opportunity to set a pattern and a discipline that will stay
with your children for the rest of their lives. You will
make school days easier and far less stressful, reduce the
chances of starting your day late or dragging on forever
with the homework, put an end to nagging and shouting, and
have happier, more relaxed kids.

Parental Involvement in Learning
Whether children attend public or private schools, they benefit when parents become involved in their education. According to the National Institute for Literacy, when parents or other family members frequently read to children entering kindergarten, those children were at a distinct advantage over children whose families read to them less often.
