Are You Frustrated With Public Schools?
Join a growing number of parents and teachers!
Fact: Last year, our nation spent over $382 Billion on education. Over 99% was spent on developing "learning environments" - buildings, books, science labs, teachers, sports programs, etc. The other part of the equation ? what children can do for their education - is almost entirely overlooked.
As concerned adults our focus must be on the other side of the equation ? getting children to take more ownership of their education. We must give them the tools to "step up to the plate" and take positive action on their education?
The key is goal setting! But, wait a minute. Aren't they already teaching that in school? Yes, but there is a significant difference between the way public and private schools teach these important life skills.
Why the difference between public and private school?
1. Make goal setting and educational ownership a priority. 2. Integrate these principles into the student's educational experience. 3. Students are taught that they are directly responsible for the quality of their education.
4. Goal setting and educational ownership are fundamental parts of their students' and schools' success.
1. Teach goal setting as a small part of a bigger program. 2. Are under enormous pressure to complete the bigger program in a specific time. 3. Goal setting and educational ownership are not integrated into the school's curriculum. 4. Do not teach students how to specifically use goal setting in the classroom.
Did you say "that's my school" to any of the above statements? Many parents cannot afford to send their children to private schools, but they still want them to have the necessary tools to succeed.
Your child will benefit greatly when they learn how to set and achieve goals and how to use these principles in school. When your child takes educational ownership they take personal responsibility to do something meaningful and positive to change their lives. Your child will learn that they play a significant role in their education and in their future. With educational ownership comes dignity and self-respect.
Will you be pushing your kids too fast? Certainly, you wish your kids could grow up at a slower pace than they have to today. You know they are being bombarded by negative influences from the Internet, the radio, TV, MTV, etc. However, you understand that your most important job is to teach them how to meet the world's challenges. You want your children to grow up to be honest and caring, responsible, to take initiative, and to be respectful adults. You want them to develop a positive attitude, minimize their fears, and to be successful at whatever they choose to do. In short, you want it all for them and you are willing to sacrifice to help them.
Private schools make goal setting and educational ownership a priority for good reason. These are important keys to helping a child develop an "I'll Make It Happen" attitude that will have a positive impact on their school participation, student achievement, character development, attendance, discipline issues, and test results.
When your child understands and implements the goal setting and educational ownership principles they will make better decisions, minimize excuses, take more responsibility, and embrace your efforts to help them succeed.

Public Schools Can Waste 12 Years of Your Child?s Life
For over fifty years, public-school officials and politicians have tried one education fad after another. They have all failed. Children should not be turned into victims and educational guinea pigs by public-school authorities. Here's why public schools can waste 12 years of your children's lives and destroy their love of learning:
The ADHD Parents Guide: Questions for the School
Here is something that you might want to keep if you are thinking about changing your child's school next fall or if you are planning to have your child tested by the school in the near future. Let me say this, if you are planning to have your child tested by your district, do not put off doing the paperwork. Sign them up today! Typically districts have 10 weeks in which to do assessments, but the clock doesn't start until you fill out the paperwork. This can be a long process, and if you delay at doing the paperwork you may not be able to get the assessment done until next year!
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder: What Do We Mean by Attention Anyway?
When we talk about attention, we are talking about two different kinds of abilities: The ability to focus on a specific task put in front of us to do, such as school work, and the ability to pay attention in a more global sense to the world around us, to be able to pay attention to the buzz of the lights overhead, and the touch of the clothes on your skin, and the children playing outside of the classroom. These are two different kinds of attention.

The Recipe For The Making Of A Self-Assured Child: One Part Communication, Two Parts Love
Each child carries a unique picture of the self, shaped in part by the influence of parents. Your child is not born with a self-image or self-assurance. Both traits are learned through experiences beginning from birth.
Homeschooling --- A Superior Education For Your Child
Home-schooling provides children with a superior education. Parents can quickly teach most kids the basics of reading, writing, and arithmetic using excellent, creative, learn-to-read, or learn-math books, programs, or computer learning software. Once children become proficient readers, they can then study subjects they love in greater depth. If a child needs help on a special subject, parents can occasionally call in a tutor.
Developing a Fantastic Relationship with Your Child
Here's a scene: A parent "might suddenly grab a happliy playing child and shower him with excited hugs and kisses without warning." What's wrong with this picture?
Homeschooling Takes Your Child Out of Public School --- A Unique Benefit
Home-schooling removes children from public school. That alone makes home-schooling worthwhile. Unlike public-school children, home-schooled kids are not prisoners of a system that can wreck their self-esteem, ability to read, and love of learning.
Parenting Your Teenager: 6 Tips for Effective Discipline and Consequences
A parent writes in, ``We are having a hard time in our family deciding on appropriate punishments when our teen-ager breaks family rules. We can't tell if we are too strict or too lenient. What can we do?''
Where to Look for Affordable Baby Clothes
Once the newness has worn off a little, you will realize that your baby grows very fast. So fast, in fact, that he may need new clothes on the average of every two months during the first year. The sizing of baby clothes just does not apply to most children. For example, my four month old is now wearing 6-12 month clothes. There is no way he will still be in 6-12 month clothes when he is a year old.
ADHD: A Dialogue With a Non-Believer, part three
A kiddy pool and sandbox can be a great investment for the summer as well for the younger kids. My son spends hours playing in his sandbox and kiddy pool and the investment was small compared to the hours of enjoyment he can get from these. If a family member is looking for a gift this summer for a birthday or just because, suggest buying one of these items so that you don't have to pay for these yourself. We asked for these items for our son's birthday and also used our anniversary money to put towards a family zoo pass for the summer.
Don't forget to stock up on all of those fun summer toys for the kids to play with outside. You can stock up on a lot of your fun summer items over at the local Dollar Store. We purchase sidewalk chalk, sandbox tools and toys, bubbles, and water guns. They offer a wide variety of fun summer toys that won't break the bank. You can also make a couple of these yourself with these recipes.
Kids: Channeling Mania Towards Productivity
More and more kids these days are diagnosed ADD, ADHD, or Bipolar. There are biological reasons for this, and there are environmental elements which can soothe or aggravate the symptoms. It becomes increasingly easy to "react" to each mood swing rather than to develop a plan for different positions on the pendulum swing. Yet, preplanning is the best chance at teaching our children coping skills that will serve them throughout life. A child will learn better during a manic or hyper state-if the parent is able to stay strong and kick into a preplanned directed goal.
Lets Protect Our Children
There are software programs that you can purchase to keep your children from accessing undesirable websites. There are two good ones, Cyber Patrol and Net Nanny.
What To Do With A 6 Year Old Smart Mouth Know It All
Just the other day, I was talking to some other stay at home moms and asked if they were struggling with any difficulties. "Yes," one piped up almost immediately, "discipline problems with my 6 year old smart mouth
know-it-all! I don't want to spank, and don't, but he seems to laugh at time out, privilage loss, etc. What do I do?"
Strengths and Weaknesses
All too often, children with learning disabilities are seen through their weaknesses.
I don't know how people raise daughters because I have 2 sons. In my in-sanest moments, I have thought about having a daughter and have entertained thoughts about rushing into Toys'Rus straight to the Barbie doll section. My preoccupation with daughters is short-lived. Then I become sane all over again ? I must be out of my mind thinking about having another child! No way, it's totally, absolutely, positively, undoubtedly out of the question. I do love babies. Oh, how I do love them. Pinching cheeks is not one of my favorite things to do an infant but I sure do love the feel of their feathery skin that is layered with fine, fine hair. I can't resist touching their bums like a lunatic.
Understanding A Childs Beliefs, Nuturing Young Beliefs
Children are moral and make moral determinations... at least until their view becomes jaded through doctrinal or extremist teachings. But if they are nurtured and encouraged to live under the umbrella of Right Action, then there is a bright future for their Spiritual development. Their lives can unfold into understanding, compassion, warmth and beauty. These are the duties of all family and all friends. Empowerment.
MORAL ARMORS Irrational Parenting, Part I
"If a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is "God is crying." And if he asks why God is crying, another cute thing to tell him is, "Probably because of something you did.""-Jack Handey
