ALLOWANCE MAGIC: Turn your Kids into Money Wizards

ALLOWANCE MAGIC is penned by David McCurrach, father, grandfather, and doler out of allowances. The book is an enjoyable must read for the parent whose children believe that money comes out of a slot in the wall.
It tackles head on such issues as early pint sized brand slaves who will disregard a fully functioning pair of good quality jeans in favor of a brand name pair that is more expensive and less well made. Designed as a workbook, it helps parents whose children may just be starting out with an allowance - and parents who are frustrated with their children's inability to develop some good saving and spending habits - to set some healthy ground rules and prepare their kids for fiscal savvy.
Using a step by step approach, this is the kind of book that offers a logical alternative to the parental "because I say so" and it shows how little money wasters can become little savers and generous givers virtually overnight.
One of the sections that stood out was the one on the "Sharing Money Challenge." I like the way the author helps children to integrate giving into their weekly routine, and the way he emphasizes that giving is just as much a part of spending an allowance as buying candy.
ALLOWANCE MAGIC is the one book I used as required reading in my free online class entitled "Money Skills for Kids" and it has proven time and again to be a powerful tool. It is written for the elementary school aged child, but even older kids will benefit from the steps the author proposes.
Best of all, this books is also a very powerful reminder to spendthrift parents that children learn what they live, and unless a parent wishes to be considered a hypocrite, many moms and dads have begun to also embrace a much healthier attitude toward their own spending.
