FIGHT LIKE A GIRL By Lisa Bevere
Warner Faith
May 2006
Women's Issues/Christian

ISBN: 0446577588

FIGHT LIKE A GIRL is penned by one of the most prolific writers in the field of women's issues: Lisa Bevere. If you have ever perused the women's issue section in your local Christian bookstore or even in the more mainstream stores, you doubtlessly have noticed the aptly entitled "KISSED THE GIRLS AND MADE THEM CRY: Why Women Lose When They Give In," and also "DISCOVER YOUR INNER BEAUTY: Finding Your Worth in the Eyes of God." To say that Ms. Bevere has a firm understanding of what makes women tick, is a clear understatement.

FIGHT LIKE A GIRL reintroduces the Christian mother to her very own femininity. Addressing all women - mothers and unattached women alike - Ms. Bevere asserts strongly that the very femininity that womankind has been made to believe is a problem that needs fixing and detracts from a woman's sense of self-worth in both her own perception in that that of others, is instead an asset and far from being a problem it is instead the solution to many of today's ills!

Christian women are not immune to the notion that they somehow need to be better than their Christian male counterparts - forever striving to be more spiritual, more sacrificial, more giving, more organized, more scheduled, more disciplined, and more achieving at work when it is in fact the opposite that is true! The spiritual life is not a contest between Christian men and women that needs to somehow be in engaged in and won by the Christian woman at the expense of her femininity, but instead, this very femininity is the way God designed womankind to be, act, think, feel, and react.

Far from being the weakness that it is being derided as, the feminine role is part of God's master plan and is unfolding in His creation. To do away with it in favor of the unisex hype that is perpetuated by those who either do not know any better or think they must prove themselves to the men and take as many women along as possible, is ludicrous.

FIGHT LIKE A GIRL will liberate the Christian mother who has fallen into the trap of aspiring to be super mom - the employee, mother of the year, PTA president, soccer team mom, loving wife, and supportive church volunteer. Yet even though Ms. Bevere is in fact addressing Christian women, this book breaks through the barriers of faith and conviction and instead will hold value to any woman who is struggling with societal expectations while at the same time having that nagging feeling that somehow, something is not quite adding up.

Mothers in particular will find this book most valuable not only for themselves, but also in preparing the next generation of women to not buy into the media perpetuated myths of the super mom and superwoman who has to be better, stronger, slimmer, more successful, and sexier than is humanly possible. Any woman will take away from the book the fact that God made womankind special, and that in that very special-ness is the key to happiness. Men will realize that only Barbie is able to have an hourglass figure and hold down a number of jobs while cruising in Malibu with Ken.
