The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership: Follow Them and People Will Follow You
John C. Maxwell
September, 2007
ISBN: 0785288376
John C. Maxwell is a well known author on topics related to spirited and spirit-filled leadership. With titles like ATTITUDE 101, THE 360 DEGREE LEADER, and THE 17 INDISPUTABLE LAWS OF TEAMWORK it is apparent that Mr. Maxwell knows a thing or two about leading. Sure enough, with more than 40 years of solid leadership experience and an unabashedly sincere desire to teach others the lessons learned through personal failure but also success, the September 2007 edition of the 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership is actually a reprint of an earlier edition, but in a true labor of love this book has been revised and updated.
What sets apart Mr. Maxwell's script from the severely crowded field of motivational writings is the fact that as a former pastor and lifelong leader, the author is basing his leadership tips and laws on the lasting values that appear to have been interwoven into the human psyche by the creator. There are no faddish suggestions, no gimmicks, and no obscure techniques that will cause headaches and eventually peter out; instead, there is a return to ingrained values and inborn common sense that will liberate the leader in you simply by virtue of introspection and application.
It is interesting to note that this is not the kind of book that proffers simple "how to" suggestions, but it is instead a tool that helps the person who is not a confident leader to find the confidence from within, and the person who struggles with being in the role of leadership at all to understand the "why" of the call and then learn to embrace the "how."
Whether you are a worker who seeks to gain control of her or his environment, or a parent who needs to transition from parenting a toddler or big kid to parenting a pre-teen, mentoring a teen, or being a guiding friend to an adult child, this is a book that addresses the pitfalls and strong points of leadership principles as well as dispels the myths so commonly propagated in the newspaper columns and sound bites. Addressed are the laws of influence, respect and intuition, empowerment, victory, sacrifice, timing and legacy. Accompany the author as he imparts a lifetime worth of leadership learning by using the Old Testament Israelites as an example as well as modern day business leaders. With (thus far) 58 books under his belt, John C. Maxwell time tested spiritual values will continue to train leaders the world over.
