Summer is here and with it the summer fight series has begun. No, I'm not talking about the latest cage fighting series or Saturday night fight on HBO. I'm talking about the wonderful fights that come along with kids on summer vacation.
You know the fights I am talking about. These are not the typical brother and sister "I don't like you" fights. These run more along the lines of "even though I have no reason to, I'm going to rip you limb from limb" fights.
My kids normally get along pretty well, but summer vacation has somehow changed their DNA and all they do is fight. If I had a dollar for every time one of them was in time out for antagonizing the other one, I would have a house on a nice peaceful lake somewhere.
I have tried keeping them active (and away from each other) to no avail. As soon as they are within striking range it begins again. The part that really worries me is that they are only 5 and 3. What will it be like when they are in junior high? High school? I foresee future summers with separate camps for each kid. At least then I could test the whole "absence makes the heart grow fonder." Or at the very least "absence makes the torment less violent."
Luckily summer vacation is a tad bit shorter this year. At least it won't be enough time for me to go completely gray. In the meantime, I have a summer of Rock'em Sock'em siblings to look forward to. Wish me luck!
