RUN FOR YOUR LIFE
Elisabeth (Lisa) Freeman
Time To Heal Press
ISBN: 0977647404
Autobiography
www.lisafreeman.org
RUN FOR YOUR LIFE is the first book in the autobiographical series of master storyteller Elisabeth (Lisa) Freeman. Having previously authored "The Pictures That Destroy the Mind" and "Coming Out Of Sexual Addiction," in addition to her e-book "She Said, He Said, God Said!" as well as her short story in "Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul," Ms. Freeman is a well rounded and seasoned writer of many talents.
Therefore it is no surprise that RUN FOR YOUR LIFE is such a gripping retelling of her early life's story. Experiencing a rocky existence with her family, 13 year old Lisa despairs at being forbidden to see her much older boyfriend. In order to stay together, the two decide to run away together. Hitchhiking across America, they experience some of the worst people have to offer. In constant fear of being raped, killed, or robbed, this thirteen year old child experiences sexual violence, drug use, drunkenness, domestic violence, kidnapping, and injustice. She becomes the confidante of a murderer, the uneasy companion of a kidnapper, a topless dancer, a hardnosed inmate and a chased runaway. She is finally caught and sent back home, but will she stay?
Ms. Freeman pulls no punches in her retelling of her life story. She does not sugar coat her experiences, her mistakes, or her hopes. Beautifully written, throughout the story we see the budding yet not quite blossoming beginnings of a faith that would later on be her salvation. She recalls her prayers to God and her continued hope that He would hear her pleas. At times she despairs at the apparent silence, while other times she is awed at the responses. For anyone who has a preteen or teen in the home, this book is a must read as it breaks down the thought process of a child this age.
In the same vein, those whose children may have been making bad choices and parents who are at their wits' ends when it comes to dealing with their youngsters will appreciate the message of hope contained in Ms. Freeman's writings. Sharing this book with older and more mature teens is a good idea, although even the younger teen teetering on the edge of making foolish choices will benefit from reading this retelling.
