Ways Your Family Can Conserve Water

Now that the warm weather has arrived, even for us New Englanders, I bet you're finding you spend more time outside than ever before.

The pools are uncovered, the sprinklers are going, and the cars are getting a good wash. But have you ever thought about how much water is being wasted on a daily basis? Sure, we need to enjoy our little luxuries in life, but it can be done smarter and "greener" if you take a few extra moments of work.

Washing your car? Wash it on the lawn. The water from your rinsing will give your lawn some much needed refreshment as well as keeping the need for the sprinkler off. Remember to turn the nozzle off as you suds up to keep the water from being wasted.

If you do have the need to water your lawn, consider an underground irrigation system. They might cost you a little more upfront, but you'll find your lawn gets a better drink than the sprinklers set above ground. A lot of water can be lost due to evaporation.

Cover your pool in between swims. You'll find you lose less water to evaporation, which will reduce the need for more chemicals. A bonus is your water will stay warmer!

Use a water bottle instead of purchasing bottled water. It's easy when you're out and about to toss that empty water bottle in the trash. Water bottles are one of the least recycled items during the summer. Think of all the plastic used to make them as well! Pick up a handy water bottle and refill. It'll reduce the plastic trash as well as save some money in your wallet.

Living greener isn't hard for any season; we just need to know the simple changes to make. Step by step, we can make this world a greener place!
