Go Green this Back to School Season

"It's the most wonderful time of the year!" This catchy Christmas tune has made it's way to parents' mouths for the August back to school shopping trips.

August is the time when most families unwind from their summer vacations and hit the office stores and mega-stores for their back to school shopping supplies.

The statistics would surprise you. The average student uses over 20 pounds of paper per year! Multiply that by the number of students across the nation and imagine the trees that have been cut to supply that demand.

Paper is a must-have, students need to take notes, complete homework assignments and take their tests. Instead of purchasing "regular" notebooks this year, consider newer eco-friendly notebooks made out of recycled paper. They are a little pricier, but consider the cost on the earth in the long run. You can find them at many common-name office supply stores.

A quick search online can turn up multitudes of green back-to-school products. Pens, rulers, binders and the like can be found, mostly from earth friendly stores. The sky is the limit for the true eco-friendly family.

It's a lofty goal for parents everywhere to turn green, but we can all do our share to make our little bit of difference. Until the "powers-that-be" find that the earth is running out of natural resources, it's up to us to do our part- one notebook at a time!
