Make Your Halloween Costume by
Ann Safford
October brings thoughts of Halloween to little ghosts and goblins everywhere. This year, with the tight economy and still realizing the need to "go green," be different and get back to the old ways of homemade costumes.
A little creativity can go a long way. Instead of purchasing those high priced, low quality masks and plastic outfits, try finding things around your home that can be recycled into a costume. Raid your closets; check the basement and attic for the stashes collecting dust. Even picking up cheap fabric for a one night party is better than tossing the alternative vinyl into the trash.
Face paint and a talented hand can work wonders to sprucing up your child into being whatever he or he desires. Accessories found around the house can make or break a costume idea as well. Costume jewelry can be found cheap at mass retailers, and can be re-used in the future for dress up games.
Halloween is approaching quickly, but there is still plenty of time to plan it out right. Look for cheap buys at yard sales or thrift stores. If you're low on time like the average family now, a quick search online can turn up hundreds of ideas that are simple and can come together quickly. Your child doesn't have to be disappointed with homemade looks when you use your imagination!
