New Year's Resolutions to Help Protect the Earth

The New Year is upon us, which means time to make those annual resolutions. This year, why not consider making promises that not only help ourselves, but will help generations to come?

Taking care of our earth is important, in this day and age with so many factors that can lead to serious problems for our children and grandchildren and beyond. Simple changes in your life can make a difference, and encourage those around you to do the same. Many changes can be very low cost, or even free!

Take the time to recycle. Set up bins in the corner of the garage or laundry room and take the time to sort out the plastic, glass and paper. Many towns or cities have either free or low cost recycling that you can drop off.

Cook more at home. I know, sometimes easier said than done in this day and age of multiple jobs. Not only is it healthier for you, but also think of all the plastics and Styrofoam that fill up our landfills everyday. In the long run, it's considerably cheaper and will save a lot on your budget.

Talk to your co-workers about carpooling. Carbon monoxide fills the air with several people all commuting to the same place, why not hitch a ride and take turns? With the cost of gas now, it's the smartest thing to do.

Plant a tree. Trees are pretty to look at, can provide shade in the summer and are a great way to clean up the air around you.

Why not make 2008 a year of change? Take care of yourself and the planet!
