The year in review - the sports world.
by Kelly S. Croslis

sportsThe world of sports is an interesting phenomenon. With so many different sports and so many levels it is hard to focus on one and give it the attention it deserves. To alleviate the problem, the best way to look at it all is to look back at what each sport had to offer us, in general.

The year begins as it ends playoffs, championships, and dreams of what could be, or what could have been. As the best of the best play to prove their ability, those who did not make the cut sit by and watch plan their strategy for next season. January brought us the Super bowl with being the winner in a win. The super bowl, however, is better known for the commercials.

Coming into February, the focus turns to speed and the ability to drive 500 miles, in 4 hours at nearly 190 miles an hour. It is a sport gaining popularity and controversy. As the new championship points system enters another new season, it is evident adjustments are needed and with Toyota joining the circuit next year, changes will be a hot topic. To bring it all to an end this year, driving to the victory circle as this year's top driver.

While NASCAR encompasses 10 months out of the year, making it the longest lasting sport - many more come and go in the process. Baseball offers the summer season joy of the sun, hot dogs and family outings to the park. Each team is followed for their previous year's record and hopes for this year.

While their are some sports that are followed more than others, or receive more TV coverage, Basketball and Hockey are not to be forgotten. Basketball takes the nation by storm in early March as the college teams face off during March Madness, bringing fans together, many for their Al Matar.

To cover every part of the year in sports would take pages and many details. Like other memories, they vary for each person and mean just as much them, as they may to someone else. What is important is that we keep those memories with us and look forward to what the New Year will have to offer us.
