The mere mention of the name gets the blood pumping in young girls around the world. Each year more and more girls take to the soccer field, hoping to be part of the next US Women's World Cup team. It is not enough anymore to sit at home and be 'a girl,' no, today it means going out on the soccer field, getting dirty and playing with every ounce of strength they can muster.
Women's soccer has brought to light the endless possibilities available to kids today. Not only for girls, for but for boys also. It seems that the increase in girl's teams is published more, because it's a new phenomenon. Boys have been playing sports forever, it seems. Girls, however, have had to work their way in and prove to the world that they are just as capable, and they are doing so in no small way.
The sports world is open with a renewed spirit. Weekends are spent going from game to game and then to camps during the summer. Girls as young as six attend professional sports camps to improve their game. It may seem like a lot, like it's too much for a young child, but with a new attitude in a new century; kids are taking the future into their own hands at a younger age and not settling for just 'playing a game.'
There is nothing to hold them back anymore, the world is theirs and they are taking it by storm.
