Sports and our Lifestyle
By Kelly S. Croslis
As the weather warms we are drawn in so many directions, windows are opened for a cool breeze, and the birds are singing and at no other time are the menagerie of sports we watch so apparent.
Just sit down and turn on the sports news, within minutes there is the NBA updates, baseball season is in full swing, and soccer has started. Just under the radar is Ice hockey as they head for the Stanley Cup. Mind shattering crashes make the highlights of the latest NASCAR race and to round out the news cast, the 2009 football schedule is out and the draft had diehard fans getting the status of their team's new players every few minutes.
It is quite evident with all the news coverage that we are a very sports oriented society. In a way, however, maybe this is something we need right now - a diversion so to speak. As our lives are taken over by the bad economy and the media's continuous onslaught of all we should be worried about, turning to the sports channels is a retreat.
Spending the day at the ball park, whether pro, college or little leaguer there is hope that all will be O.K. Watching the kids on the field makes everything else seem trivial, watching them be so carefree gives us hope, They aren't worried about what tomorrow will bring all that matters is what is happening on the field, and the cheers from the crowd.
Yes spring brings us a menagerie of sports that even the most dedicated sports fans can get lost in, but to lose ourselves in the simplicity of a ballgame can help us all.
