Did you ever think an obsession with sports
could be a good thing?

golfLabor Day signals the end of summer. The last day of swimming, family picnics, last minute school preparations and even a little sadness for the lazy days we enjoyed that will now be replaced with the cooler weather of fall and the inevitable cold of winter. But just below the surface, waiting to break through the soon to be cold ground is a fire known to all as - Football season!

To the diehard football fan the passing of summer brings joy and elation that for the next 16 weeks, their weekends will be filled with non-stop action. From high school and college games, to the glitz of the Pro grams on Sunday afternoon, it is a never ending dose of adrenaline as they watch their favorite teams battle it out for the ultimate game - the Super Bowl.

If baseball is America's favorite past-time, then football almost has to be the heartbeat. This heartbeat has never been as prevalent as it is this season. This year's season began with the realization that in the blink of an eye everything can change, but we learned that it doesn't have to break the spirit. In the wake of Hurricane Katrina the New Orleans Saints lost their home field, but they didn't lose their drive for the game. With no home stadium to use, this dedicated team is being welcomed at every stadium and are being given the opportunity to keep their dreams, the dreams of New Orleans, and of their fans alive, even in the midst of tragedy.

If you look beyond the T.V. cameras, the high salaries and the endless sensationalism, you will no doubt find people, just like you and me, who in their hearts look forward to football season, not only as a job or entertainment, but as a way to reach out and bring people together, beyond the tailgate parties and fantasy teams. To show what true football fans are made of.
