Teens If You Liked Sex In the City, You will Love Books In The City
By Jillian Bietz
Whether you call it "The Big Apple," "The City That Never Sleeps," or even simply "NYC," it's undeniable that New York City is one of the most exciting in the world. In these books, the famous lyrics, "If I can make it there, I'll make it anywhere" certainly ring true. While New York City may seem the epitome of glamour, the characters find out that there is more to Manhattan than yellow taxis, bright lights, and pizza vendors!
"Hot Mess: Summer in the City" by Julie Kraut and Shallon Lester
Armed with her parents' cash, an impending New York internship and her best friend, suburban girl Emma is prepared to have the summer of her life. While she may envision her vacation to be right out of an episode of "Sex and the City," her naivety ultimately gets the best of her, as the experience is much more scary than it is Carrie! The streets are dirty, the subway is stinky, and the humidity is so unbearable that one step outside and her hair turns into a frizzy mess. Not to mention, her boss is as kooky as they come! With the help of her socialite roommate, Emma realizes that there's a fine line between fiction and fantasy, and real life-especially when one little lie turns everything upside down.
 "Catwalk" by Deborah Gregory
Though many people aspire to be world famous fashion designers, the dream often ends when the alarm sounds and reality sets back in. But Pashmina Purrstein, a student at Fashion International, a posh public fashion high school in New York City, has the opportunity to make her designing dreams come true. As Fashion International's annual Catwalk contest (a competition geared towards up-and-coming style superstars) looms, Pashmina and her three best friends form the House of Pashmina, and prepare to take the fashion world by storm. The team is certain they will triumph, and believe they are, well, the cats meow! However, much to their chagrin, Pashmina and her pals aren't the only students who dream of fashion stardom. Along with the competitions amazing prizes including a reality TV show gig on the hottest teen television channel. The claws are coming out!
 "Luxe" by Anna Godbersen
Set in 1889 during the lavish Victorian era, "Luxe" chronicles four very different young ladies of the upper crust as they cavort around New York City. Contrary to what they seem on the surface, these girls' lives are far from perfect. Enter Elizabeth, a beautiful "it girl" who's impending and unwanted nuptials cause a frenzy all over town, Diana, an adventure seeking free spirit who longs for something else, Penelope, a rich, well dressed, jealous and devious queen bee, and Lina, Elizabeth's maid and former best friend who harbors a juicy secret about her childhood pal-a secret that could gain her acceptance into a world she's always longed to be in. No matter the century, Manhattan is always full of love, affluence, and, of course, scandal!
