Internet Access
By Jillian Bietz
The Internet: what would we do with out it? With a click of the mouse, we can talk to friends who live on the other side of the world, shop for clothes, and do homework all at once. However, the World Wide Web is so vast that it can be overwhelming. And while its entertainment value certainly can't be denied (Facebook, anyone?) it's actually a portal to the whole wide world. Here, from all the corners of the Internet are some of the most helpful websites that will make your time online more productive and ultimately help to make life easier. Because "google-ing" can only take you so far!
Librarian, please?
www.refdesk.com:
Whatever you want to know, you'll find here! Containing a chockfull of helpful tools like dictionaries, an index of various subjects and much, much more, you can read about the world's latest happenings while simultaneously searching the encyclopedia. Refdesk.com is a must-have link for anybody's bookmarks.
http://lii.org/
Organized by Californian librarians, The Librarians' Internet Index instantly shows you the very best sites on the web for whatever topic you choose from. With hundreds of topics, subtopics and easy-to-use search engines, you can also sign up for their free weekly newsletter that features the newest, most helpful sites on the web.
Is That a Fact?
www.factmonster.com
From math to sports to literature to movies and more, this site contains scholastic-like information for a bevy of subjects. Factmonster.com is easy to navigate, entertaining, and super helpful. With a tagline like "more information please" and adorable illustrations of cute little creatures of every page, this factmonster.com is great for students of all ages.
Save and Shop
www.couponcabin.com
Though it's super convenient, shopping online isn't as helpful as it may seem. While you may be saving gas money, the prices can soar when there is no sale rack or in store special. However, just because you may not have the time to clip out coupons doesn't mean you are doomed. Print out coupons for the grocery store or use the codes to receive free shipping for an online order, and save money both online and off with this site. Also check out: http://www.freeshipping.org, www.retailmenot.com, www.smartsource.com, www.currentcodes.com.
