Thanksgiving Place Cards Make the Table
With so many other things to worry about during the Thanksgiving holiday, place cards may be the last thing on your mind.
While this is understandable, it is also a missed opportunity to create a truly beautiful Thanksgiving table. Some place cards are involved and take a lot of time to create, but others are quick and simple enough that even the children can help you create them. Instead of waiting until the last minute, start thinking about creating Thanksgiving place cards that can make a decorating impact today.
Place Card Basics
When you start thinking about creating place cards for your Thanksgiving table, there are some basics that you should keep in mind. The place cards should be made of a material heavy enough to stand on its own and be big enough to hold the name of the guests who will be seated at the Thanksgiving table. Place cards normally have a neutral background, but for festive holiday cards, they can have a printed background if there is a plain piece of paper on top to hold the name of the guest. Remember that the stronger the material, the more apt the place card is to stay in place and be an effective part of the table’s decor.
Take advantage of the pine cones that are in abundance during the Thanksgiving season and use them to create fun and festive place cards. Gather and clean off as many pinecones as you need to accommodate the number of guests who will be at the table. Spray each pinecone with a clear adhesive and roll it in a shallow pan of gold glitter. On business card size pieces of cardboard or heavy card stock, write the names of each guest. Glue, using a hot glue gun, the card stock name tag to the glitter pinecone once it is dry. Place the pinecones in front of each guest’s seat. Make the pinecone a decoration that can be used on the Christmas tree by tying a length of brown or gold ribbon to it and putting the year on the card. Your guests will remember the Thanksgiving dinner for years to come as they hang their dinner place card on their Christmas tree.
Tot Decorated Tents
Tent-style place cards are the easiest type of place cards to make, but they create quite an impact when they are decorated creatively. This is the perfect time to put those tiny children’s hands to work and let them color and decorate the place cards with markers, colored pencils, glitter, stamps, and stickers. If you use heavy paper, they might even be able to watercolor paint the paper and then it can be cut into lengths for the place cards. Use a permanent marker to write each guests’ name on the cards and hot glue a decorate length of ribbon or a Thanksgiving decoration to the card.
Adding place cards is a great way to brighten and lighten your table for Thanksgiving. They not only help guests feel more comfortable and welcome, but they also give your table added decor. By taking the time to create them you will find that your Thanksgiving table is even better than you imagined.
