New York State Integrated Domestic Violence Courts

85% - 90% of the women who contact us regarding child support enforcement are or were victims of domestic violence. NYS has an Integrated Domestic Violence court system set up to handle these difficult cases. The court personnel are trained in dealing with domestic violence issues. One judge will handle family court, criminal court, and supreme court/matrimonial issues. However, you need bureaucratic PROOF that you were a victim.

Be sure to make a public record of your abuse. File police reports and/or go to a doctor or hospital and have bruises and other evidence of abuse documented. Give proof of family board not allowed abuse to a trusted friend or relative to store for you.

Initiate all child support cases in the Integrate Court System, rather than going to regular family court, criminal court, or supreme/matrimonial court. The link to learn more about this specialized court system is below. Make sure you click on the sidebars on the left side of the screen to learn more:

Welcome to the Integrated Domestic Violence (IDV) Courts website. I hope that you find the descriptions, images and resources on this website helpful in answering your questions about Integrated Domestic Violence Courts and their operation. In an effort to better serve families facing issues of domestic violence, Chief Judge Judith Kaye, in her 2003 State of the Judiciary address, announced the statewide expansion of IDV Courts.

IDV Courts respond to a historic problem in the court system, which requires domestic violence victims and their families to appear in different courts before multiple judges, often located in different parts of a county, to address their legal issues. Dedicated to the “one family - one judgeâ€
