The Lake of the Ozarks
Lake House Rentals
by Nathaniel Broughton

The Lake of the Ozarks, located in the Ozark Region of Missouri, has been a popular family vacation spot since its creation in 1931. The manmade lake has a surface area of 55,000 acres and boasts over 1,150 miles of shoreline. Often referred to by Missourians as simply “the Lake,” the Lake of the Ozarks attracts families from around the country with its many attractions on and off the water.

One popular attraction is the Bagnell Dam Strip, or simply “The Strip.” This family favorite is a stretch of stores and amusements along the road immediately after crossing the Bagnell Dam. There are t-shirt shops, bumper cars, mini golf, old time photo studios, batting cages, lake cruise departures, and everybody’s favorite, ten cent skee ball. A visit to “The Strip” provides hours of affordable fun for the whole family.

If you’re interested in miniature golf, Pirate’s Cove is often lauded as the premier miniature golf course at the Lake of the Ozarks. Open from April 1 – November 1, Pirate’s Cove is a wonderland of waterfalls and pirate ships. There are 36 holes total available to play. Putt-putters can choose to play one of the 2 courses or all of the holes for a few dollars more.

If you happen to end up with a rainy day on your vacation, Miner Mike’s Adventure Town promotes itself as “The Lake’s Indoor Destination.” Attractions include an indoor play place, a Ferris wheel, an eatery, and more. There is also a connected arcade for older children and adults. An added plus to Miner Mike’s is the location; it’s across the street from the lake’s outlet mall!

Perhaps the best known shopping destination at the Lake of the Ozarks, it is not rare for the Osage Beach outlet mall to be the motivation behind some shoppers’ trips to the lake. There is designer apparel, home stores, specialty stores, and more. The outlet mall is home to Adidas, Nine West, Tommy Hilfiger, Eddie Bauer, and BCBG Max Azria outlets, just to name a few.

The Lake of the Ozarks can also be a great family destination during the colder months of the year. There are many parks and wooded areas that are great for hiking and observing nature. Bird watchers will be happy to know that many bald eagles make the Lake of the Ozarks their winter home.

The Lake of the Ozarks is the perfect choice for guaranteed year-round family fun!
