downtown vancouver Vancouver, Canada is the largest city in the province of British Columbia. It is surrounded by water on three sides and the Coast Mountain Range on the other. Most tourist come to Vancouver to sail on an Alaskan Cruise in the summer or to ski in the winter. It is truly worthwhile to stay in Vancouver for a few days before or after your cruise. Wander through the many shops in the downtown area, visit the museums, Chinatown and the Granville Island Market. Here are my family's favorite places to visit amd things to do in Vancouver, BC.

Downtown Vancouver

Robson Street Named after John Robson, Premier of British Columbia from 1889 - 1892. Along Robson and its side streets you can find fine dining, premier fashion stores and services, and an opportunity to 'people watch' as the world shops the street.

stanley park vancouver Stanley Park near downtown this 1,000 acres park has much to offer. An Evergreen forest of majestic cedar, hemlock and fir trees. The Lost Lagoon Nature House, operated by the Stanley Park Ecology Society , offers natural history information and guided walking tours. Or take on of the trolleys that run through out the park to visit the many recreational facilities. something to do for every one in the family: a pitch and putt golf course, spring-blooming Ted and Mary Greig Rhododendron Garden and a formal Rose Garden,best from April through September. More--The Children's Farmyard, Miniature Railway, tennis courts, bathing beaches, a children's water park, a heated ocean-side swimming pool, Theatre Under the Stars, and the Vancouver Aquarium.

Art Gallery located at 750 Hornby Street, 604.662.4719. Now Open Late every Tuesday and Thursday until 9pm. Walking distance from the cruise ship terminals. The permanent collection includes 8,000 works with an emphasize on Canadian artists and the region. Visiting exhibitions are ongoing.

vancouver canada Granville Island: Take a taxi or the False Creek Ferry from the Aquatic Centre to Bridges Restaurant dock. You are sure to enjoy the market with its six types of mushrooms, tropical fruits, glistening fish, stuffed pasta shells, and locally grown berries.

anvlle island marketEnjoy a coffee or a meal from one of the many food booths while overlooking the waterway. The views of False Creek and the city are incredible. Visit the many craft and gift shops. Kids love Granville Island they can romp in Vanier Park or the small park at False Creek School. In the summer they can cool off at the water park, and every day is The Kids Only Market day.

Granville Island has several small museums including:Sport Fishing Museum, Model Ships Museum, and Model Trains Museum .

ski vancouverSkiing No matter which you love best,downhill skiing, snowboarding, powder skiing, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, or dogsledding, all are available in the Vancouver,BC area. Ski Resorts are consistently rated amongst the best, with Whistler-Blackcomb rated #1 in North America. Grouse Mountain is just 15 minutes form downtown Vancouver.
