Vitamin B6 and Colon Cancer
If not detected early, colorectal cancers can be some of the deadliest forms of cancer, particularly for men and women over the age of 40. However, a major new European study finds that women in this high-risk age group who supplement their diet with regular doses of vitamin B6 can cut their risk of colon cancer by as much as 34 percent.
The study, conducted at Sweden’s Karolinska Institute, tracked more than 60,000 women over 15 years to find that long-term vitamin B6 intake was associated with significantly lower chances of being diagnosed with colon cancer. Interestingly, the study also found that vitamin B6 supplementation was especially beneficial to women who regularly drink alcohol, cutting their colon cancer risk by 72%.
