Back to Business
by Jamie Edson Opielski

Do you hear that? "Hear what?" You might ask…. Exactly! Quietness, no screaming and fighting kids! No one pulling on your shirt, shaking you shoulder so hard your head nearly rolls off to the floor. That's right; the kids are back in school! And though I love my children dearly even though I get a little frustrated every now and then it sure is great that summer break has come to an end. Not only is it great for my sanity, but for my home business as well. I can work for several hours straight with out getting whiplash from all the shoulder shaking and arm tugging!

My work ethic has become more disciplined, especially during the time when my pre-kindergartners are at school. It's only three hours, but it also happens to be the most crucial time of my work day. It's when I make important phone calls, have conferences/meetings, and really crunch down on work that takes 100% of my attention and concentration. And of course, I try to squeeze in a little cleaning, like mopping so that little feet aren't getting my wet floor all dirty again. I have though learned that if I want the floor to stay clean longer than an hour, to do it at night time.

I have decided that for my business growth it is time to start marketing. I took a 6 month break from promoting my Copy Writing business to concentrate on my Virtual Assistant business since it had picked up greatly. But first, I plan to really crack down on my book and get it off of my plate. When I start marketing again the materials I plan on using will consist of a variety of postcards, business cards, message boards, links and banners and word of mouth for starters.

Marketing is an important weapon in growing, building and maintaining a successful business. It can take up a lot or a little bit of your time a day. Marketing is what you make it- a big part of your success or that grueling chore that you hate to do and make yourself do it. The way I see it, if I don't do it I won't gain clients and I won't have a thriving business or an income. So I have made it something that I enjoy doing, not only for myself and my business, but for my family as well.

Now I need to tackle my book and get it off to the publisher- so I can get back to business!
