Working from Home as an Event Planner
by Jamie Edson Opielski
Have you ever been at a wedding or an office party and thought to yourself, 'I could have planned something better than this!' while making mental notes of what you would have done? Or gone to a New Year's Eve party that was staler than a 3 month old bag of open chips and thought 'This party needs some hot sauce!' Well, it sounds like you'd make a great event planner.
Event Planners have a wide variety of occasions they can cover. You may chose to provide services for one occasion or several. Some of the most popular events include weddings, birthdays, office parties and anniversaries. Whatever event/s service you plan to offer you should learn everything about it, the ins and the outs, the dos and the don'ts, and what you'll need to successfully plan the event/s.
Before starting as an event planner, do your research. Find out what you'll need to start up your business, what equipment you'll utilize on a day to day basis, start a list of contacts and the best places to purchase event/party supplies. You should for one, be a very organized person to start up in this niche. The responsibility of keeping track of an enormous amount of details is very high.
As a planner you will be accountable for making sure everything is set up before the event, you will be at the event to make sure everything is running smoothly and to encounter any issues as well as making sure that everything gets cleaned up afterwards. So in a nutshell, plan on working a lot of hours on the day or night of the event.
Here is a small list of what you'll be responsible for organizing:
Set deadlines of when things are needed
Manage finances
Book place/venue for the event
Invitations- prepare and send
Consulting with suppliers
Decorations
Music
Catering
Any transportation needed
Any advertising
Communication with clients
Overseeing the event
Clean up
Thank you notes to guests if applicable
Again, this is just a small list of things you will manage.
You should be a very open-minded and creative person. Imagining the event as you plan will play on your creativity.
Event Planning is becoming a large work at home business market. More and more people are tapping into this industry, mostly women. Eventually, this profession will be one of the largest versatile occupations that can be worked from home or an outside office.
Many people and businesses hire event planners because they are too busy to handle the planning themselves. With a bit of research you should easily find an available planner to coordinate your next event.
