In My World as a Virtual Assistant
by Jamie Edson Opielski

I have had people say "Oh! You work from home, it must be nice to stay home all day and do nothing!" WHAT!!? Are you kidding me? Yes, it is nice to stay home all day and not deal with congested traffic and worrying about what I am going to wear. Unfortunately a lot of people think that because you say you work from home you do nothing but clean house. When I say I work from home- I really work from home! Not only cleaning my house and taking care of my kids, but running my business too.

My day starts at 6:00 am getting the hubby and kids up and moving. Everyone gets fed and off to school or work and by 8:15 the house is empty and I have already picked up clothes and shoes that were strewn all over the place, started a load of laundry and swept and mopped the floors. By 8:45 I am knee deep in replying to emails, dealing with issues and getting the most important work started. In between slow periods I continue with the household chores.

After working until 2:00, I take an hour to myself before the kids start coming in at 3:00. Then it's snacks, homework and rallying the kids to do their chores. And that is a job in it's self! Between 4:00 and 5:00 I start getting things ready for dinner and try to have the family fed no later than 5:30-6:00. Unless the hubby wants to grill something it may be later. In between kids coming home, dinner, etc I am still doing housework, checking emails and spending time with the family.

The kids start taking their showers at 7:00 and by 8:00 the kids are all in bed. All four of them. By this time if there is not a particular show I like to watch I am usually at my computer…..working, tying up loose ends, etc. On Wednesdays we have a starting your own home business chat that starts at 10:00 pm that runs for an hour, sometimes a bit over. Up until I go to bed I'll check my emails-this is a bad- bad habit that I really need to break!

I preach and preach to others about setting boundaries when it comes to working from home. Never work later than you normally would at a normal 9-5 job! I should definitely take my OWN advice! So needless to say, YES! I stay home all day; unfortunately my work is home all day with me! I'm thinking it is time to preach to myself!
