Cat Eyes – Get the Look!
Fashion Trends By Jillian Bietz – Summer is the perfect time to play with new make-up techniques.
Summer is the perfect time to play with new make-up techniques. Although “cat eyes” have been a popular eye makeup look for years, the look feels as fresh as ever. While many makeup shy people believe that only a professional makeup artist can pull off this look, it’s actually very simple to create.
First, you will need eyeliner. Liquid works best although a wet powder can work, too. Close your eye and relax. Make sure your eyelids aren’t fluttering or the eyeliner will come out smudgy (and even if it does come out a little less than perfect, its no problem-more on that later) With a stable hand, slowly trace the brush against the bottom of your lash line, very close to your lashes. Instead of stopping at the end of your lid like you would with regular eyeliner, add an extra fourth of an inch in an upward sweep to create a winged look.
To finish off, sweep a neutral eye shadow over your lids. Add a few coats of mascara, and voila! Remember when you wear heavier eye make-up keep the lip simple. Smooth your lips with a neutral lip-gloss, and you are ready to go. Although it takes a bit of practice, you’ll get the hang of it. Pretty soon, your friends will be dying for your makeup tips! For a fun summer dare try the same technique using a colored liner like purple or turquoise.
What to do if you end up with messy or too thick lines on your eyelids that look like your little brother painted on you? Before you reach for the makeup remover, try this: smear an eye shadow brush over your eyelids, and smudge the lines. Keep blending until it starts to resemble a smokier, eye shadowed look. Who knew a simple makeup mishap could turn out so chic!
