Creating Kitchen Space
By Sonya Weiss – Interior Design –
The kitchen is the center or the heart of a home. This is the room where family recipes get passed down from one generation to the next. It’s the room where meals are shared and conversations flow. Family members naturally gravitate to the kitchen, which stands to reason why you want to make sure your kitchen is a beautiful, welcoming room.
One of the biggest complaints with many kitchens is that they don’t have enough counter or cabinet space to serve the family needs. One of the reasons could be that over time, the items in the kitchen will double or triple in accumulation.
Remodeling your kitchen to address this lack of space issue can be stressful, time consuming and a financial drain. Instead of going that direction, you can easily spruce up a kitchen inexpensively simply by painting the walls and refinishing or painting the cabinets.
But freshening up the look doesn’t take care of a lack of space. If you need space in your kitchen, one of the quickest and most affordable ways that you can get it is to repurpose a bookcase. You can take a bookcase of any size that will fit in your kitchen and secure it to the wall. Paint it whatever color you’d like. For the background of the bookcase, you can paint each square a color or you can wallpaper the squares with wallpaper that adds some decorative flair.
When you’re done, you’ll have a place to store kitchen gadgets, dishes, cookbooks, collectible kitchenware and knickknacks.
