Shrink Dinks DIY!
By Jillian Bietz
Who didn’t love the “one minute full size, the next minute tiny” novelty of the Shrinky Dinks?
And these days, your favorite childhood craft is all grown up and makes a great personalized present: The Shrinky Dinks! Whether you are lacking in funds, or simply want to create something unique for a friend, personalized Shrinky Dinks can be made into a variety of accessories for an awesome DIY gift that even novices can create in less than ten minutes.
All you need is:
Inkjet printable shrinkable sheets (available at craft stores)
Cookie sheet covered with foil
Required accoutrements/decor (glue gun, ribbon, jump rings, chain, hole punch, barrette, etc.)
-Upload desired image on to the computer. Resize if appropriate; once shrunken, it will be about a third smaller and five times as thick.
-Print photos onto a shrink plastic sheet.
-Cut out the images in desired shapes with scissors or a decorative hole punch. If you are making your Shrinky Dinks into charms, earrings, pendants, keychain, etc., punch a hole at the top.
-Lay pieces flat on the foiled cookie sheet.
-“Bake” in the oven at 300 degrees for about three minutes, or until Shrinky dinks are completely flat.
-Once cooled, start decorating and attaching. Use a glue gun to attach the Shrinky dinks to a magnet or a barrette, or make earrings or a keychain.
The ideas are endless! Don’t forget to make yourself some fabulous accessories, too!
