A Dog’s Tale

It’s not easy to find a heart-warming movie for the whole family. If you have dog lovers in your family, be sure to rent the newly released DVD Hachi: A Dog’s Tale starring Richard Gere and Joan Allen. Based on a real life story of a Japanese man and his faithful canine companion, Hachicko, the movie is an updated and version of the heartwarming connection between a man and his dog.

After viewing the movie, young viewers may be interested in reading some of the books written about Hachiko.

Hachiko: The True Story of a Loyal Dog
by Pam S Turner and Yan Nascimbene is a beautifully illustrated picture book that tells the story of Hachiko from the perspective of a young boy.

Hachiko Waits
by Leslea Newman is a chapter book that offers more detail about the story of Hachi for slight older readers.

Hachiko: The True Story of The Royal Dogs of Japan and One Faithful Akita by Julie Chrystyn is another version of Hachiko’s story along with information about the role of dogs in Japanese culture.

Hachi: A Dog’s Tale offers an opportunity to be entertained, enlightened, and educated.
