Find out Why Being a Grandparent Is So Much Better than Being a Parent
By Olivia Williams
“Nobody can do for little children what grandparents do. Grandparents sort of sprinkle stardust over the lives of little children.” – Alex Haley
Being a parent is the most amazing feeling in the world, that is, until you become a grandparent. Parenthood is the most important job in the world, and as such, it can be very challenging, exhausting and downright annoying. Grandparenthood, on the other hand, provides you with all the joys of parenthood, but without the stress and hassle. Feeling convinced yet? If not, here are some rock-solid arguments to confirm it.
Grandchildren are rejuvenating
Don’t let the gray hair fool you. When you become a grandparent, you actually have the chance to become a kid again, with the addition of wisdom and retirement checks. While parents gain new wrinkles every day because of the stress of chores and tasks, grandparents are injected with a new youthful vigor which allows them to play, laugh and use their imagination again.
You have more time to enjoy with the grandkids
As a parent, you have probably spent a lot of time working, bringing food to the table and taking care of the kids’ schooling and health. By the end of the day, you probably just didn’t have it in you to jump around with your kids or read books to them. As a grandparent, you have loads of time, so you can relish every moment with your grandchildren.
You can give them everything you couldn’t give to your kids
By the time you become a grandparent, you will probably be more financially stable. That means you will be able to get your grandchildren everything you couldn’t afford to give your kids. Plus, you have every right to spoil them. Nothing is too much: throwing extravagant birthday parties, having fun while browsing through an online bicycle store in search of their favorite brand, going on a trip together etc.
You get the fun part of the job
Dentist visits, parent groups, driving the kids to school, making them do their homework… You can avoid all of these boring chores and get only the fun part of the job. You will get to take them to the park, visit the zoo with them, or why not, even take on a video game challenge.
It is a special kind of friendship
Without the responsibilities of a parent, you are free to make friends with your grandchildren. No nagging, curfews or grounding. All you need to do is play with them and share your wisdom. You finally have someone to tell all your stories to.
Your home is your home
Last but not least, at the end of the day, your grandchildren will go home, and you will have your place all to yourself. There will be no mess, no scattered toys or stains on the wall. You can have a peaceful and quiet night, because no matter how young your grandchildren make you feel, you still need to rest.
After reading these arguments, we bet you agree that there is nothing better than being a grandparent. Now go on, and sprinkle some stardust over the lives of your grandchildren – that’s what grandparents do best.
