modern kitchen design

While spending time in the kitchen probably means you’re a great cook and your family loves the meals you prepare, it also means you’ve probably become bored with it by now. Looking at the same cupboards, cabinets, and appliances day after day can really kill your desire to cook, which is why updating your kitchen every once in a while is such a good idea.

You don’t have to spend a ton of money on this, of course, and even a couple of small changes can go a long way. If you too are looking for a while to spice things up in your kitchen, here are some of the easiest, most inexpensive and still highly efficient ways to give it a makeover.

New countertops

What most people living in small apartments suffer from is the lack of space – not only when it comes to storage and living space, but when speaking about cooking, as well. That’s precisely the reason why a spacious countertop might be the best thing that’s ever happened to your kitchen: it looks amazing, saves you a ton of space and allows you to prepare your food more easily.

Another great thing is that you can install a countertop on your own instead of hiring a contractor – all you need to do is determine the optimal height, pick the right material and incorporate it into your existing kitchen layout. You’ll start noticing the benefits of this DIY project very soon, probably after a day or two, so do it as soon possible.

New kitchen islands

All those lucky enough to have bigger kitchens can afford a new kitchen island, which gives you everything a countertop does, plus much more. Even small islands are a wonderful way to combine storage space with a dining and cooking area, and these are the best way to ensure your kitchen has a proper focal point.

However, since an island can cost more than you’ve planned, find a way to make one on your own – just use a couple of cheap wooden pallets or turn a kitchen table into an island in a matter of hours.

A kitchen makeover is a great opportunity to introduce a couple of changes to your kitchen and make a new layout. The chances are something wasn’t working for you earlier and now you have an excuse to make all the changes you’ve always dreamt of.

While most people opt for easy solutions – moving the fridge to a different corner or repositioning the dining table – others think outside the box and make bigger alterations. So, if you’ve wanted to install a new kitchen window, add ventilation or introduce a reliable and much-needed new dishwasher into your kitchen, now’s the perfect time! All of these things will add a new dimension to your kitchen and turn it into a space you’re going to love more and more.

New cabinets

Most modern kitchens are equipped with classic wooden cabinets and while this might not seem like a winning combination to you, it’s actually the best thing you could’ve asked for. Since these cabinets can be painted and repainted over and over again, you can change their color – and thus the appearance of the entire kitchen – basically whenever you want, without spending more than a few dollars. Just strip the old paint and apply a coat of new one and you’re good to go!

New floors

Installing new tiles on your kitchen walls and floor surely is the most efficient way to introduce some elegance into your cooking area, yet that project can be rather expensive. Instead of doing so, you can repaint your walls quite cheaply, but what about the floor?

In that case, vinyl flooring saves the day as it’s the perfect way to solve all your problems: it comes in numerous patterns and designs, looks visually appealing, doesn’t cost much and is more than practical when it comes to cleaning.

Other ideas

If you’re looking for more highly affordable ideas to update your kitchen, some of the things you could explore include installing new handles and pulls, adding a pendant light, purchasing a couple of small appliances and getting some new cutlery that will transform your meals from ordinary to amazing!
