Kids Halloween Costume: Make a Little Red Riding Hood Costume
Make a Little Red Riding Hood Halloween Costume for Kids
Little Red Ridinghood:(5-7 year olds)
This little red riding hood costume is remakably simple. Your child can wear any warm clothing underneath, but a dress and tights looks especially good. Ifyou wish to make this outfit for a younger child, hem it or use a smaller piece of fabric.
A square of red fabric about 115cm x 115cm (45″ x 45″).
130cm (51″) of 10mm (3/8″) and wide red satin ribbon.
Finish all four sides of the fabric by narrow hemming them so that no raw edges are showing. (unless one or two sides are selvage edges – you can leave them as they are)
To make the casing*, measure and mark a line, on the wrong side of the fabric, 38cm
Fold fabric, right sides together, along this line and press.
Now stitch a line 2cm (3/4″) from the pressed edge to form the casing.
To make the hood, bring the right sides of the two corners above the casing together
Use a safety pin to weave about 130cm (51″) of ribbon through the casing.
Pull the ribbon to gather the neck area and tie around your child’s neck.place the hood over her head and roll it back until it fits comfortably.
Use a basket with a handle for gathering halloween treats. You can hem the edges
I have made this for Amanda . It easily changes into the Queen of Hearts.
*Casing: A tunnel of fabric, usually made by folding over a cut edge or sewing an additional strip of fabric on at the cut edge. Elastic or a drawstring may be threaded through a casing.
